Public Meeting: Trump 2.0 and the Future of NATO

Monday 19 October at 19:00
Sellanraa, Literature House Trondheim

The Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters invites you to a public meeting. Please note that the event is fully booked. However, experience suggests that some seats often become available on the evening, so you are welcome to come along and ask at the door.

We look forward to welcoming Cecilie Hellestveit, a Norwegian legal scholar and social scientist with a PhD in international humanitarian law. She will give an introductory talk on US security policy under Trump 2.0 and the future of NATO.

She will be joined by Karl Erik Haug, a DKNVS member, historian and politician. Haug is Professor of Modern History and former Head of the Department of Modern History and Society at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

Since Donald Trump returned to the White House in 2025, the United States has made extensive changes to its security policy. It has also pressed its European allies to take greater financial and military responsibility for supporting Ukraine and ensuring security in Europe. The US administration’s tough rhetoric towards NATO allies has created uncertainty and sparked debate about the alliance’s future. Where does NATO stand in autumn 2026, and what challenges might shape the remaining years of Trump’s presidency?

Join us for a timely discussion on US security policy, transatlantic relations and the future of NATO.
