Design a new lapel badge for DKNVS
The Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters (DKNVS) invites art and design students in Norway to take part in an open competition to design a new membership pin. The pin will replace the current commemorative medal and become a lasting symbol of membership in DKNVS.
Deadline: 1 March 2027.
Who can enter?
The competition is open to:
- Students enrolled in art and design programmes in Norway (BA, MA and vocational college level)
- Individuals or groups (maximum of three entries per participant)
What are you designing?
The design should be a membership badge that:
- Reflects DKNVS’s history and identity
- Is suitable for production by a jeweller
- Can be worn as a discreet but distinctive emblem
Submission requirements
Entries must include:
- One or more design sketches (3D formats are welcome). The workshop can open files in any format.
- A short description of the idea (maximum 200 words)
Final specifications will be published once they have been agreed with the jeweller. Preliminary guidelines:
- Maximum size: approximately 3 cm (round shape), within a frame of 4–5 cm in diameter (may be adjusted for production)
- Material: silver is recommended, possibly with small gold details. Other options include gold-plated silver, oxidised silver, pearls or stones. Bronze and brass are discouraged.
- Limited use of colour
- A suitable fastening mechanism (pin or clasp)
Judging criteria
Entries will be assessed on:
- Idea and concept
- Originality
- Connection to DKNVS’s profile and history
- Suitability for production
Prize
- Winning entry: NOK 10,000
- The design will be produced and used by DKNVS
Rights
The winner grants DKNVS exclusive rights to use the design. The designer will be credited in relevant communications. Production will take place in collaboration with the selected jeweller.

Can I submit a hand-drawn design?
Yes, but if it is selected as the winning entry, it must be digitised.
Can we enter as a group?
Yes.
What happens if no one wins?
DKNVS reserves the right not to select a winner.
